BANGALORE, INDIA: Several entrepreneurs today sought to rubbish the myths surrounding the job opportunities with startups stating that jobs at these organizations were actually more challenging for those who aim to establish and reemerge themselves.
“A non-performer can actually get more time in big corporates, but there can be no place to hide in a startup,” said K J Singh, Principal Architect, Tejas Networks addressing the panel discussion on 'Startup jobs for dummies! - Myths, facts and opportunities' at the NASSCOM Product conclave and Expo 2009 here today.
“The start up jobs are actually more challenging as startups expect a lot from their talent pool. The startup jobs are actually ideal for those who look at long-term career objectives and re-emerge.”
Singh further observed that with a number of technology startups around Bangalore today younger generation has tremendous opportunities and this has been proved with the new innovations that has been taking place in the recent years.
Dr Vishwanath Ramachandran, CTO, Webaroo, noted that there were several myths surrounding the jobs at starts ups, which were unfounded.
“Many candidates feel the jobs are insecure but it's like saying working with a stock company is risky. Also the candidates join any company with a pre-conceived notion that the company knows everything but in case of many startups, they look at acquiring more capabilities with the available talent pool,” Ramachandran felt.
Another panelist Kiran Anandampillai, Director Engineering, Application and Voice Product unit OnMobile, stressed that starts ups can be successful with going with freshers in their talent pool and this has been proved in the case of OnMobile.
What really matters for the employees is the company's clear employee policy,” Anandampillai noted.
