Sony adds new Indian games to playstation

MUMBAI, INDIA: After the growing success of ‘Hanuman: Boy Warrior’ in March this year, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), today launched ‘Desi Adda – Games of India’ the collection of six games based on Indian traditions in Mumbai.

Developed by Hyderabad based Gameshastra Solutions Pvt Ltd, ‘Desi Adda- Games of India’ is the first game console developed by Indian game studio here and is playable on both PlayStation2 (PS2) and Portable Sony PlayStation (PSP) platforms.

Pachisi, Kabaddi, Goat and the Tiger, Gilli Danda, Kite Fighting and dancing games are based on Indian traditions. These games have been developed keeping in mind the localized content and a story line that includes a village setting with half dozen characters.

According to Atindriya Bose, country manager – PlayStation, Sony Computer Entertainment, the company is proud to launch the first Indian game on PSP with localized content in three Indian languages and fully developed in India.

“We will bring more Indian games in future and we are closely working with our partners such as Arona Technologies, GameShastra, Trim Technologies for developing games based on Indian traditions and localized content,” said Bose.

Further, he pointed that the first Indian game for PlayStation –‘Hanuman: Boy Warrior’ launched in early March this year has already cross 65,000 units sale. “So with these new games that have support for PSP and PS2, we expect equal or more numbers of sales,” he added.

“We had an enthralling ride for developing these games. We had started developing the concept back in 2008 with a team of 30 developers and finally the games were ready and tested for which we received good reviews and feedbacks,” said Prakash Ahuja, Gameshastra’s CEO.

“It took about 16 months in designing and developing the game content. Apart from these six games we are also developing four more games which will be playable both on PSP and PS2 platforms,” added Ahuja.

According to Ahuja, Indian gaming market is expected to reach 100 million dollars by 2012, however he pointed developing localized contents and games needs great initiatives and investments has done by Sony.
