NEW DELHI, INDIA: India's software industry, which plays a major role in the country's economy, is high on the terrorists' target list and said the Union Home Secretary.
“We are world leaders in software. But software industry is high on the threat list,” a PTI report quoted Home Secretary G K Pillai as saying while addressing a conference on 'Challenge of Terrorism to India's Infrastructure and Economy' here.
Pillai also asked the country’s software industry to get its security revamped as it figures high on terrorists' target list.
The Home Secretary also said sensitive installations like atomic plants and refineries located on the coastline are vulnerable to terror attacks.
The statement was not based on any particular threat, and it was more of a warning to ensure that companies get their security in place. HE also promised all helps to the IT companies to strengthen their security.
Indian software exports have risen from Rs. 28,350 crore in 2000-01 to an estimated Rs. 216,300 crore in 2008-09.
