Sky News appoints Twitter reporter

LONDON: This is the age of social networking sites and citizen journalism. Of late these two things have become sort of complementary to each other.

Be it the terror attack in Mumbai or Obama's electoral win, we had seen bloggers, especially micro-blogging site Twitter, and networking sites traveling in the speed of light to be there first with the news.

And it is this strength of the social media that prompted Sky News to appoint a special reporter to trawl Twitter for breaking news.

According to media reports, the new Twitter correspondent will leverage the growing popularity of the micro-blogging site to scour news.

Twitter can be a potential source of news, knows Sky News.

Recently Twitter had got a shot in the arm when Queen Elizabeth of Britain joined the micro-blogging site to become the first royal member joining the site.

President Barack Obama had used the site as a publicity mechanism in the recent US presidential elections.

In the recent times the popular micro-blogging site had attracted many celebrities and pop icons including Lily Allen, Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross and Ashton Kutcher.
