Sasken staff fired for anti-Kannada poem

BANGALORE, INDIA: Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd has sacked an employee for allegedly writing and distributing a derogatory poem on Kannada inside the office.

All the three offices of Sasken in the city were shut down on Monday as members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) attacked one of its offices at Electronic City after an employee identified as Lee, a Canadian national, allegedly wrote a derogatory poem on Kannada.

A statement by the company said: "Sasken management strongly condemns the incident reported by the media today, and is in no way associated with such acts of individual misconduct. Prompt disciplinary action has been taken against the individuals purported to have been involved, and their services terminated with immediate effect."

"Sasken Management is further investigating the matter, and will take required action against all those found to be responsible," Sasken said in the release.

"We respect Karnataka and the sentiments of its people and are proud to be a part of this state and in no way support any activity that is against the interest and sentiments of Karnataka and its people. We once again apologize for the incident that has hurt the sentiments of the people," the company said.

KRV spokesperson Saneerappa said, "A poem insulting Kannada was written and sung by a Sasken employee. This is happening for the last three months (sic) and the company has not taken any action. North Indians support such kinds of activities."
