Oracle user groups improving Oracle

India’s Oracle users group getting more active

PUNE, INDIA: All Indian Oracle Users Group (AIOUG) that just had its first tech meet in Hyderabad, could well be the right bridge between Oracle and users on areas like prioritization of features and Oracle 11G release, the next technology stack for Database.

“Oracle User group is trying to bring this to users and participate and test the program so that the users get educated before the product gets in the stream,” AIOUG President Murali Vallath shares.

Commenting on the role of such user groups in addressing inadequacies within Oracle, he says, “There have been several instances. This is more commonly seen with groups in the US, UK that have been in place since ten to 15 years. Oracle itself is open to know and asks – what would you like to see in our product and technologies.”

Some of such current feedback-based work is in areas like Enterprise manager solution, real application clusters, disaster recovery side features, to name a few.

The AIOUG interacts with Oracle Corporation through Asia Pacific Oracle User Community (APOUC). APOUC is part of a larger Oracle community and is part of the International Oracle User group Community (IOUC).

AIOUG also has representatives that serve on the active APOUC and IOUC committees, providing feedback and guidance on issues on behalf of its members.

He tells that while most of these groups are popular in the US, UK, there were not many in India.

“It’s a new concept here. India however has a big base and it was time to have a platform for knowledge sharing and bringing together experience of knowledge people.”

AIOUG plans more of quarterly events and tech nights on a per year basis across multiple cities in India. Also planned are regional and satellite groups out of AIOUG.

The group was formed almost a year ago, as a non-profit organization by professionals who have been working/ innovating on Oracle technology in various organizations and capacities.

The idea of this group is to share what the Oracle users have learned from using Oracle technology over the years with fellow users who have similar interest.

The group, which has about 1000 members, primarily covers Oracle technology stack like database application layer, application end user layer.

Other Oracle User groups in other geographies include regional users groups like Asia Pacific Oracle Users Community (APOUC), Europe, Middle East & Africa Oracle Users Community (EOUC), as well as Product Users Groups like Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG), Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG), Oracle Clinical Users Group (OCUG), Oracle Development Tools Users Group (ODTUG), Quest International Users Group, Higher Education User Group (HEUG), Oracle HCM Users Group (OHUG) and Oracle Life Sciences Users Group (OLSUG).
