BANGALORE, INDIA: Megamart, a retailer chain from apparel manufacturer Arvind Ltd, today announced that they have selected Oracle Retail Ltd to provide software support for their ongoing expansion projects.

Oracle would support Arvind by extending a scalable platform to manage its retail processes from supply chain to stores.

They would deploy together in the expansion of centralized distribution center and regional distribution center all over India. This deployment is expected to raise the inventory returns, customer services, sales figure and enables to maintain systematic efficient data.

"Upon evaluating the retail software market, we identified that the best practices embedded in Oracle Retail applications will help us in many ways, including creating a product mix based on our customers' buying patterns and forecasting customer behavior based on historical data," said J Suresh, chief executive officer, Arvind Brands and Retail.

Arvind is planning to increase the number of retail stores from 93 to 250 by 2010, and the software support from Oracle would be of great advantage in this connection, he added.

"Oracle Retail's experience with retail organizations across the world and its industry-specific best practices will help Arvind brands achieve its desired customer centricity and profitability while allowing them to compete more effectively in the rapidly growing Indian market," said Ronan Gilhawley, vice president and head of Oracle Retail, Oracle Asia Pacific.

This partnering, to be implemented in three phases spanning 24 months, would comprise five modules – Merchandise management module, Pricing module, Inventory module, In-store module and Planning module.

"We are proud to say that all the top 20 retailers in the world use Oracle software, which is designed to make retail business profitable," said Mukesh Mathur, director, Oracle Retail. He said India is a potential market and Oracle has many pipeline projects apart from the existing ones.
