DUBAI, UAE: In yet another incident of cyber warfare, the website of a Dubai-based television news channel, Al-Arabiya Television, was hacked on Friday allegedly by Shiite groups. The website's main page was replaced by an Israeli flag set on fire and a political message and a warning: "Serious warning: If attacks on Shia websites continue, none of your websites will be safe." Recently a Shiite websites was hacked by Sunni hackers and this is supposed to be a retaliatory action for the same. The sectarian cyber crime has forced the pan-Arab TV station to temporarily change its website domain name from www.alarabiya.net to www.alarabiya.tv. The channel has decided to take legal action against the "organized cyber piracy by extremists. Owned by a Saudi company Al-Arabiya is considered close to the conservative kingdom and bastion of the mainstream Sunni world. Meanwhile, UAE based newspaper Gulf News reported that it got an email from a person claiming to be the hacker, which mentioned al-Arabiya as a Wahhabi channel that wanted to "start a war" with Shia Muslims. The incident has provoked furious debates on Arab Internet websites, and many bloggers have called for unity among the society to fight this sectarian division.
