MTNL launches 3G services in Delhi

The service would enable customers to access live TV and high speed Internet on mobile phone

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) announced on Thursday the launch of its 3G services, aptly named Jadoo, in Delhi.

Through the 3G service the customers can access live TV and high speed Internet on mobile phones, said a press release. It is for the first time that the service is being launched commercially any where in the country.

The launch has been possible on the basis of the 3G spectrum allocated to the state-owned telecom company by the Department of Telecommunication last year, the release added.

The company had earlier launched IPTV, VOIP and latest technology ADSL 2+ broadband services as first telecom operator. The service would enable customers to see their caller live on screen.

Also, customers can make overseas calls using VOIP technology at as low as Rs. 3 per min from mobile to more than 100 countries including Europe, USA and Canada.

For adding Jadoo one needs to pay Rs. 500 plus taxes as activation charges, and monthly rental of Rs. 599/-.

The 3G data service would also be available at a monthly rental of Rs. 149, and Rs. 5 per MB usage charge, the release added.
