Intel brings out Corei7 Processor

Intel Corei7 Processor with Turbo Boosting and Hyper-Threading techno features comes from the new Nehalem micro architecture base processor family

MUMBAI,INDIA: Intel India launched its latest desktop processor, Intel Corei7 processor in Mumbai. Corei7 processor hails from the new Nehalem micro architecture processor family, loaded with technologies to boost performance and processing time.

It’s mainly targeted for applications such as video editing, gaming, music, internet and other desktop applications.

The processor will speed up all these applications by 40 percent without rise in power usage, company claims. Further, Intel claims that Corei7 processors would hold world record of 117 points in the SPECint_base_rate2006 benchmark test for processor performance.

Its design is based on micro architecture on 45nanometer high-k metal gate manufacturing process. According to Intel’s Prakash Bagri, director – Marketing, Intel South Asia, the digital revolution has opened new opportunities such as gaming, entertainment, digital content and data processing.

“In last 30 years, Intel technology has changed the digital revolution. Right from Intel 8088 processor in 1979 to Intel Pentium in 1993 and now the Corei7 in 2008, it a biggest leap in chip design,” said Bagri. Interestingly, Bagri called Corei7 processor, the fastest processor on earth.

Morover, Bagri explained the India’s expanding animation and film industry needs high processing computers that can reduce the rendering or encoding time, hence digital production houses and content developers remains the key focus area for the Corei7 processor.

Turbo Boost technology speed up performance as per user’s need and tasks is based on the on-die power control unit and power gate transistors built on 45 nm high-k metal gate process.

Moreover, its self adjusts the clock speed of one or more of the four individual processing cores for single and multi-threaded applications to boost performance, without more power demand.

According to Intel, compared to its old processors, the Corei7 has more than twice the memory bandwidth and fast data transfer from the processor with its Quickpath technology.

The Hyper-Threading technology allows multiple computing threads to run at once, which enables multitasking and offers 8-threaded performance.

The Bangalore Chipset Engineering (BCE) team has designed and developed the Tylersburg chipset for the company’s new Nehalem architecture.

According to Intel’s Rajesh Gupta- director, Sales and Marketing Group, the Turbo Boost technology speeds up performance as per task and consumes less power that results in low heat emission in central processing unit (CPU).

“It’s the same technology used in laptops. With Corei7, Intel has introduced same technology for the desktops. While the computer is not in use it automatically moves in sleep mode or hibernation reducing the power usage,” explained Gupta.

Intel Corei7 processor has three variants – Corei7-965 Extreme edition with 3.20 GHz speed priced at US 999 dollars, Corei7-940 with 2.93 GHz speed priced at US 562 dollars and Corei7- 920 with 2.66 GHz speed for US 284 dollars.

All these variants have 8 MB cache and DDR3-1066 memory support. Intel already has shipped 100,000 processor units to India and other countries. It is available and sold by 500 different channel distributors and partners across India.

Ive heard great things about the processor but also have heard you have to buy an expensive video card to get the full affects of the processor. Is this true?
