MUMBAI, INDIA: IT giant Infosys is planning to reduce the usage of sub-contractors and perform their work in-house particularly at cheaper offshore locations, a PTI report said today.

"We found during our reviews that a large number of client work had been outsourced to sub-contractors. In such cases, we decided to reduce the usage of sub-contractors and use our (own) facility," it quoted Infosys' chief mentor, NR Narayana Murthy as saying on the sidelines of an industry conference in Mumbai.

Murthy also said India needs to find a balance between remaining competitive and being financially secure and stable in a troubled economic climate.

"Despite the relative health of the Indian economy, we should be mindful of the fact that the danger of an economic downturn in India has not yet passed and situation could change rapidly," he pointed out.

He also said the Indian corporate sector, he said, has been extremely fortunate in escaping the worst of the global financial crisis compared to America and other Western countries.

Can the outsourcing companies stand on their own feet, with their own products and business?. I dont think so. They have to live on US Jobs and US economy. If they had so much talent pool the sub-contractors would not had existed first of all. Somebody is trying to bite thier own fingers.
