IBM makes largest storage announcement

MONTPELLIER, FRANCE: IBM, in one of the largest announcements in recent times, addressed the gaps in its information infrastructure offerings by launching record 30 new and upgraded storage offerings on Monday.

The announcement was largely driven by the growth and mobility of data, skyrocketing energy costs, security concerns and more demanding consumers.

Some of the announcements were also aimed at presenting products innovations IBM has acquired from some of the companies in the recent times.

The announcements were a results of about three years of R&D and pumping of 2 billion dollars.

IBM also unveiled critical elements for an information infrastructure as part of its New Enterprise Data Center Strategy.

The company also introduced new disk storage system, new storage virtualization software, and scale out file services. Other sets of announcements were around data duplication, onsite and remote data protection and new Tivoli Key Lifecycle Management software.
