HYDERABAD, INDIA: In a virtual act of mocking the cyber crime department of the police the official website of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), www.cidap.gov.in, has been hacked and defaced it.

Though no one has publicly claimed responsibility for the act, the abusive message posted on the website points to some Islamic fundamentalist group, according to reports.

The hackers said that the hacking of the CID website was a response to the hacking of Pakistan's Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority's (OGRA) website.

Police authorities confirmed that the website has been hacked. Efforts are on to restore it, said Additional DGP AK Khan. As of now the website says that it is currently under maintenance.

"We have blocked the URL, efforts are on to restore the information and track the hackers. People have to bear the inconvenience till we restore information on the website," Khan said.

Since the site is open to public the hacking has not caused any security issue as such, CID said. Still police said an enquiry is on to locate the hacker taking help of his IP address.
