BANGALORE: A group of Greek hackers have reportedly come close to getting into the controls of Cern's Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which went live on Wednesday. A Greek group had allegedly hacked into the facility and
displayed a fake page with the headline "GST: Greek Security Team".

The people allegedly responsible for hacking signed off saying, "We are 2600 – don't mess with us"

Mocking those who are responsible for its IT systems as 'a bunch of schoolkids', the hackers said in a note written in Greek that they were not going to disrupt the network further. "We're pulling your pants down because we don't want to see you running around naked looking to hide yourselves when the panic comes," it read.

The mammoth experiment to re-enact the "Big Bang" at CERN near Geneva is said to be the biggest physics experiment in the world.

The Cern network has a high level of security ands still they managed to breach Cern's network defences and got into the Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment (CMS). Though the access got only a momentary access, and
authorities said no harm has been done to the system, this incident once again brings to front the security threat in the cyber space.

After the incident, the website - www.cmsmon.cern.ch – was no longer accessible by the public.

The incident assumes greater significance in the backdrop of the death threats, threatening emails, and other harassing messages from concerned people around the world that the LHC scientists are getting.
