BANGALORE, INDIA: IT products and services provider Hewlett-Packard (HP) today announced the worldwide launch of HP Software University (HPSU), in partnership with IIHT, a technology training organization in IMS.

Through this program HP is focusing to train youngsters out of the college in the field of software testing. This program would enable HP to garner more of profits during slowdown.

The worldwide market for software testing is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 56 per cent to 13 billion by 2010, out of which 50 to 60 per cent, approximately 7 billion, would be contributed by India, says Gartner. HP said it is well poised to address this demand.

HP's market share in automated and quality software testing is 61 per cent and in performance testing it is 77 per cent.

“The software testing training is currently done largely in India. But there is a great amount of lacking in terms of quality. The education systems in India are not yet upgraded and do not give an updated training,” said Neelam Dhawan, MD, HP India.

“This proves to be a major problem for students, as they are not updated with latest software developments and find it difficult to manage while getting employed in the industry.”

She added that through this HPSU, they aim at bridging the gap between education and employment. They are trying to provide a standard and authorized training, which is recognized all over the world.

Kamal Dutta, director, HP Software and Solutions Group, HP India, said, “Currently there is a shortage of 18,000 testers in our country and over the years it will grow up to 25,000. There is a need of a tester for every developer. Testing industry has become more complex with increasing complexity in application.”

He added that they have launched this initiative to meet up with this increasing demand. The program would offer students accredited training on HP software and a curriculum path surrounding various testing software from HP, like Quick test professional and LoadRunner.

The program provides a combination of classroom lectures and exercises that leverage HP's software tools and methodologies with students being able to apply the theory to practice solutions. “We have partnered with HP keeping in mind the tremendous market for software testing tools. With this program, our graduates will be equipped with unique skills that will benefit and make them more marketable,” said Keshav Raju, CEO, IIHT.

He further said that IIHT wants to expose its students to products and technologies used by leading corporations in India.

The university would be initially launched in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Noida (UP), Chennai, and Bangalore. The company is planning to launch the program in APAC regions by Q3 or Q4 of this year and in Russia and France by the end of this year.

Hewlett-Packard (HP)would have looked for any other good partner to setup software university, instead of IIHT (fit for nothing). I only know how they cheated me without placement after completion of course. Wake up HP before it is tooo late :)

This is a great initiative by both HP & IIHT. hope IIHT will provide quality education at a reasonable cost. Though there are many institutes for software testing, majority of them are not delivering good quality. IIHT- please follow the admission procedure that filters out only meritorious candidates for this training.
