BANGALORE, INDIA: Indian IT major HCL Infosystems today announced that it has bagged an order of over Rs.. 40 crore from the largest public sector bank State Bank of India and associated banks to deploy, maintain and service Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

HCL will deploy over 1000 ATMs and cash dispensers across the country, HCL said in a press release. The state-of-the-art ATMs would come with enhanced features like Braille enablement and support for multi lingual content.

HCL Infosystems said this is a first-of-its-kind order for the company since its tie-up with Korean major Nautilus Hyosung, to provide complete ATM solutions for banks across the country.

“We have been focusing on providing innovative banking and finance solutions for the Indian market. This order from SBI is once again a recognition of our reach and capability to roll out and support technology solutions across the country,” said J.V. Ramamurthy, chief operating officer, HCL Infosystems.”

The HCL-Hyosung range of ATM’s offers products that have been customized to the various requirements of the Indian market, the release added. HCL also has plans to introduce rural ATMs, meant for deployment by banks in locations with relatively low transaction volumes and also help in the financial inclusion initiatives of banks.

India, being an emerging market, has high growth rate and size, said HCL. The total number of ATM installations is approximately over 40,000 units and the ATM’s per million people approximately is 33 units as compared to Korea which is 1,920 units.

Experts forecast that the growth rate (CAGR) is expected to grow at 18 per cent by 2013. With just over 40,000 ATMs in India, a country with a population of over 1.2 billion, there is a demand for ATM banking services across India, the release added.

HCL Technologies completes US data centre buy

HCL Technologies also completed the acquisition of a 35,000 sq ft data centre from a Fortune 500 organisation in New Jersey. HCL said the new centre would complement HCL's existing near-shore delivery network in the US comprising its operations in North Carolina.

HCL had taken over the data centre from a Fortune 500 enterprise in October 2008 and has since upgraded the facilities at the data centre.

Wipro wins 5-year deal from U.S. apparel retailer

Meanwhile, Wipro Ltd, India's No. 3 software services exporter, said on Tuesday it had won a five-year outsourcing deal from Charming Shoppes Inc, a U.S. retailer of women's plus-size apparel. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
