BANGALORE, INDIA: Chinese miscreants have hacked the server of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) today, according to media reports.
Official sources confirmed that Chinese hackers have broken into the MEA computer network. This was confirmed after the link to the hackers was traced to China. However, no sensitive information is believed to have been accessed. This is not the first incident of hackers trying to break into secure sites. Earlier, Chinese government was accused of breaking into the highly sensitive system of the Pentagon in the US. Previous year in August Sweden-based hacker Dan Egerstad had managed to hack 100 email accounts of embassies and government offices across the world including 13 Indian establishments.
The hacker posted a list of login ID, password and server address on his website www.derangedsecurity.com.
The list includes email accounts of Indian Ambassadors to China, US, Germany, Italy, among others. The email account of the officials of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), were also found.
He had claimed that he was not a hacker. “I am not a hacker. I only wanted to test security systems. I hope this leads them to take action,” said Egerstad.
