NEW DELHI, INDIA: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Power Dr. Jairam Ramesh and Myanmar Prime Minister H.E. General Thein Sein inaugurated the India-Myanmar Centre for Enhancement of IT Skills (IMCEITS) in Yangon, Myanmar recently.
The IMCEITS, set up by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) with Indian assistance, will be connected to ten regional centres and train nearly 1000 IT professionals per year, said a press release.
Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, has also identified C-DAC as an implementing agency for exchange of experts and training of Myanmar professionals in India and Myanmar for managing the technical infrastructure installed under the project and training of trainers and students at IMCEITS.
"This institute is planned to be a major facility for development of human resources in IT not only in Myanmar but also in the South East Asia region. IMCEITS is offering the courses proposed by C-DAC to the students of Myanmar," said Dr. Jairam Ramesh.
Prior to the opening of the center, a training programme for six months was imparted to the participants identified by Government of Myanmar in India at C-DAC's training facility in Pune.
Speaking on the occasion, H.E. General Thein Sein, Prime Minister, Myanmar said: "The implementation of this project will help Myanmar in taking advantage of the developments in the field of IT."
He said the establishment of IMCEITS will immensely benefit Myanmar in raising the standards of IT education.
S Ramakrishnan, Director General, C-DAC said: "A fully functional IT centre is now working under University of Computer Studies at Yangon. The IT centre has got the state-of-the-art Data Centre, Hi-tech computer labs and Lecture Theaters, Tele-medicine lab with Video Conferencing facility and a rich library."
He added that the Centre has the facility to provide satellite connectivity between the CICs and the centre.
