BBC World News hits Tata Photon TV

NEW DELHI, INDIA: BBC World News, the BBC's commercially funded international 24-hour news and information channel, will now be available on Photon TV Service. The broadcaster has partnered with Apalya Technology to launch the service, said a press release.

While making the announcement today PV Shyam, director, Distribution and Development, South Asia, BBC Worldwide, India, said BBC World News currently reaches more than 21 million homes in India.

“As a result of our partnership with Apalya, we are delighted to broadcast on the mobile TV platform which would increase our audience reach even further. The BBC is always looking at newer platforms to showcase our first-rate news and information content. With Photon TV Service, we are happy that new audiences will now be able to access the channel,” he added.

According to Vamshi Krishna Reddy, co-founder, Apalya Technology, demand for mobile TV is picking up pace in the country.

“The government has also recognized this recently and has been very supportive along with the major telecom and Internet players. Our leadership and credibility in the space is therefore also naturally being recognized as this partnership with BBC World News suggests,” he added.

Apalya provides aggregated entertainment and news content from subscription channels and optimizes the content for viewing on mobile screens with the requisite capacity.
