Apalya brings IPL fever to iPhone, Android

The company targets to acquire one million more subscribers this season

BANGALORE, INDIA: Riding on the IPL wave, Apalya Technologies is set to launch its Mobile Video Delivery application for iPhones and Android phones. The company targets to acquire one million more subscribers this season.

“We recently acquired rights for taking IPL matches live on mobile. This is a great opportunity for us. We plan to increase our base to reach to all mobile users. We have made the application compatible to various platform, now iPhone and Android users can also download and view TV on their mobiles,” said Apalya's CEO Vamshi Reddy.

“We have been in this space for three and half years with almost all the telecom service providers, delivering our product MiMobiTV or the white-label content platform. It is a simple GPRS based application that allows users to watch television channels on Mobile handset that supports GPRS. It is based on a proprietary technology called progressive play,” he added.

At present the company has around one million subscribers from India alone, and catching upon the IPL fever, it expects to increase by another one million. Apalya has existing partnership with television channels and broadcasters for the screening of their content.

Though he refused to divulge the details of the forthcoming plans, he hinted about about some partnership with production houses in the country to roll out movies on the MiMobiTV platform. “We would soon announce our partnership with products houses to showcase movies on mobile,” he said and added that it is still a long to time see a Harry Potter movie on MiMobiTV; they would rather focus more on regional content than the Hollywood blockbusters.”

The users of MiMobiTV can download the application on their mobile from the Apalya website, IPL's website or by sending an SMS to 58888.
