BANGALORE, INDIA: Finally, the suspense over the winners and losers is going to end. The great Indian political marathon is reaching the finishing line on Saturday.

Whoever wins, and whatever be the horse trading to clinch power, this general election will go down memory lane as the most techno savvy election in the country so far.

If the entire election process and the campaign can have the hi-tech spirit, it is nothing but natural to retain that spirit till the culmination of that process. So, the Election Commission of India has launched a new website, www.eciresults.nic.in, to make available the election results online.

The Election Commission said the Returning Officers will feed the details of the results to the EC’s main server at Delhi from their respective counting centres and the EC will then flash the results on its website.

The results would be provided Assembly segment-wise so that people would be able to know how a particular party or its candidate has faired there. On the other hand, the Election Commission of Karnataka will also announce the poll results in the State real time on May 16.

Probably this is for the first time that a State is going so techno-intensive to give real-time counting results to the general public. If the government machinery can be that aggressive at the technological front, how can the private players sit idle?!

Nautanki.TV, an online entertainment broadcast platform, is all geared up to catch the results live. It has tied up with Facebook and Zee news to make sure that the people get to know the latest from the electoral battle front.

And then, there is the multilingual portal Webdunia, which has created a special online graphic display of the election results to provide a comprehensive picture of the democratic process.

Interestingly the world wide web is having a real-time battle with the television channels, to capture the spirit of the political melodrama. And whom should we thank for all these advancements? Barack Obama? The netizens? Or the ordinary Indians who eat, drink and sleep politics though they know very well that they are mere pawns who get a chance to make a move only during the electoral battle?
