As the CIO of a pharma SMB, what is your immediate agenda with IT?

Ours is a pharmaceutical and distribution company and right now I am dealing with the IT roadmap design. Unlike other frontrunners in pharma space that have data integration and ERPs already in place, we are at the design stage currently. In the next two weeks we will complete the first phase.

How do you plan to apply IT for managing your vast network of stockists?

Yes, we have a big stockist infrastructure and it's gone to a strategic level now. After the planned ERP is in place, we will cover stockists and doctors under CRM-related applications. With Internet applications, we want to keep our warehousing and inventory intact as per customer's requirements and at a faster pace.

What do you expect from IT in view of your vast geographical presence?

Spread over 25 locations, we want our field-staff to be fully enabled. Ten years back we just had an MIS system and EDP and some legacy systems with various reporting methodologies.

With new deployments like an imminent ERP, we want our field staff to reach our target audience, i.e. doctors, identify the more influential ones with technology's support.

So, what are your immediate expectations as you roll out your IT plans?

Increase in overall efficiency, inventory levels, optimization and improvement of every key parameter and key performance indicator as IT moves in.
