Mark Reynoso, president, Belkin, interacted with CyberMedia News during his recent visit to India to chalk out the company's marketing strategies. Excerpts from interview: Belkin is one of the leading companies offering connectivity solutions and accessories. You are a late entrant in Indian market. What are focus areas? We see lots of scope for our products in India. India is one of the main markets for telecom and entertainment products. We have decided to focus on wireless networking products, products available in the MP3 segment, i-Pode and notebook solutions. In several markets, the usage of notebook has gone up.
In fact, in some of the developed markets, home users have started using laptops instead of desktops. With this, we will see good demand for laptop accessories. Our wireless networking range has already created a deep interest in Indian users' mind. We have already established our market in China. But customers and market dynamics are totally different in China and India. Belkin has a strong presence in Asia. Which are the main countries that contribute to your overall revenue? Our presence in the Asia Pacific region was established in 2004. To continue our focus in Asia, we have been increasing our regional presence with existing Hong Kong (Headquarters of the Asia Pacific region), Korea, Shanghai offices, and with additional offices in other Asia Pacific countries planned for the near future.
In Asia, we focus on markets such as Australia, New Zealand, where we established presence in 1990s, China, Japan and Korea. Our aim is to create good user experience that results in a long-lasting and loyal relationship with the consumers in Asia. Belkin is known for innovation and R&D. Do you have any specific plans in India? We encourage any efforts by our 1000+ employees to come out with innovative ideas. Best ideas will be funded internally. India can be a test bed for our innovation and research initiatives. What are your investment plans in India? We do not have any specific investment plans for India. We are currently looking for a strong team in the country. We need a country head to run the business. We want to do good business in India. Doing well will be our main aim.
For us, India is a good and competitive market. We have already appointed two distributors -- Redington India and Cyberstar Infocom. We have a long-term vision and currently efforts are on improve market presence.
