NEW DELHI, INDIA: state-owned telecom player Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which is in the search for a new chief, has reportedly finalized the name of Gopal Das the new Chairman and Managing Director. According to sources the Telecom ministry has approved his file.
He will replace Kuldeep Goyal, who is retiring from the position on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Gopal Das is presently serving as the director (HRD) in BSNL. An Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officer, Gopal Das, who joined the services in 1975, is known for his positive attitude and integrity.
In order to find a new CMD, the government has even set up a search committee. This Sam Pitroda committee set up to suggest measures to improve the condition of BSNL, had suggested that new CMD for BSNL should be from the private sector.
BSNL CMD Kuldeep Goyal had recently expressed regrets at the company's inability to control losses and also for not maintaining the growth as per his vision.
