Changing talent scene in Indian BPO space

MUMBAI, INDIA: In recent years, India's Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry has been facing strong competition from other South Asian nations. However, amid such competitive environment, the country's BPO sector still hold a good edge over other countries due to availability and supply of large talent pools here.

According to Caliber Point's CEO, R.U. Srinivas, industry trends of human resources outsourcing (HRO) and BPO sector are very positive and progressive; however, demands for HRO and BPO are changing in today's time.

“The challenge is to get the right talent and then to unlock the talent potential or abilities to meet the needs of the BPO industry,” Srinivas told CyberMedia News. Caliber Point is an independent BPO arm of Hexaware Technologies and globally provides IT and BPO services.

“The war for talent is becoming hotter. Large players are moving jobs into India, which is a very good sign and there's a demand of domain knowledge. And it's happening because of the knowledge of Indian talents and level of domain knowledge or expertise available here,“ Srinivas said.

He reckoned that there's a big thirst to invest in the domain knowledge not just in the area of talent restricted to work domain but also in areas such as sales and processing. While the BPO sector remains very attractive to young generation, Srinivas pointed out that the sector also recruits laterals from various industries, having good experience.

“With increasing competition, the cost arbitrage advantage is no longer there; however, the supply capacity of talents is far bigger in India compared to other countries. Also, with the increasing demand of domain knowledge, Indian BPOs are moving up the value chain with domain knowledge and experience-based quality value services and deliveries,” he explained.

However, along with the supply of talents and its domain knowledge, technology is also playing a major role in organizations to serve the employees. But the cost of HR automation or solution remains critical for deployment and usage across small and mid-size organizations.

Earlier this month, Caliber Point had launched Republic – a multi-tenant HR services delivery solution to cater to the HR-related needs of small and mid-size organizations. According to Srinivas, Republic solution's operational cost is low and affordable with no license fee as it is offered on per-employee-per-month basis (PEPM) and delivered using the software-as-a-service (SaaS) model.

Republic solution, the multi-tenant platform, comes with pre-configured processes, rules and data objects in a core system that offers integrated HR related services including workforce and talent management, payrolls, compensation, benefits, recruiting and learning.

It is built and designed on Oracle E-Business Suite 12 and configured for countries like India, North America and others. Within a period of 6-8 weeks, the platform can be integrated and configured with the organization's system to offer all the standard HR services to employees.

Moreover, Srinivas stressed that about 70 per cent of man-hours goes wasted in doing administrative works; however, using an effective HR technology, we are able to provide the time and talent to get them engaged and focus on core work and help them scale up their efficiencies.
