HAMPSHIRE, UK:  The global mobile market for adult content grew by around 36 percent to an estimated $2.2bn in 2008, driven by streamed subscription services and a burgeoning video chat market, according to Juniper Research.

The mobile adult report found that increasing prevalence of 3G handsets in many European markets had led to migration away from services offering only text and graphics towards video-based services, resulting in significantly higher ARPU levels.

Other findings from the Juniper report include:
•   Videochat services will become the largest revenue-generator for mobile adult content by 2013.
•    Western Europe will remain the largest regional market for mobile adult services throughout the forecast period.
•    Revenues from the US remain constrained by operator reluctance to introduce age verification systems.
