BANGALORE, INDIA: If reports are to be believed, Intel, one of the biggest supporters of the fourth generation telecom technology WiMAX, is dissolving its WiMAX Program Office (WPO) in Taiwan.
WPO, set-up in 2005, was involved in WiMAX promoting activities in the country. Also Read: WiMax and LTE: The case for 4G coexistence
The report adds that staff members of the WPO will be incorporated into Intel's Mobile Wireless Group (MWG), PC Client Group (PCCG), or Sales and Marketing (SMG) units.
The news is not yet made official and neither the Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), which has signed a WiMAX cooperation MOU with Intel, nor Intel's partners have any clue about this move.
This might bring in a cloud of confusion in the Taiwanese market, especially when several WiMAX licenses have already been handed out to Taiwanese operators and networks are up and running on the island.
