Several government website have been knocked down by an unusually resilient computer attack

WASHINGTON, USA: Of late the cyber world is witnessing an increasing number of hacking and malicious attacks. From Micheal Jackson's spam mails to the hacking in the several government websites in South Korea and now the attacks have spread to the Web sites of several government agencies in the US.

Media reports said on Tuesday that a serial and unusually resilient computer attack that began from July 4, has knocked out the Web sites of widespread government agencies in the US.

Ironically, some of the website that are responsible for fighting cyber crime, too are the victims.

Some of the sites to have come under this serial attacks include, The Treasury Department, Secret Service, Federal Trade Commission, Transportation Department, according to reports.

A spokeswoman form the Homeland Security Department was quoted by the Associated Press, saying that their U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team had issued a notice to federal departments and other partner organizations about the problems and advised them to take appropriate steps.

She also said that measures have been taken to minimize the impact on federal Web sites. U.S. officials were not authorized to reveal any further details about the attack, added the report.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the government's Korea Information Security Agency said the attacks on Korean sites appeared to be linked to the cyber attack against the US government websites.
