Palins Facebook message is Lie of The Year!

WASHINGTON, USA: Former Alaska GOP Governor Sarah Palin’s Facebook message that Democrats would set up boards to determine whether seniors and the disabled were worthy of care was chosen as 'Lie of the Year' by Politifact.com.

Politifact.com, the fact-checking, Pulitzer Prize-winning site run by the St. Petersburg Times, said “Of all the falsehoods and distortions in the political discourse this year, one stood out from the rest - Death panels."

The assertion by Sarah Palin spread through newscasts, talk shows, blogs and town hall meetings.

PolitiFact readers overwhelmingly supported the decision. Nearly 5,000 voted in a national poll to name the biggest lie, and 61 per cent chose 'death panels' from a field of eight finalists, said the website.

Sarah's message had gone like this: "As more Americans delve into the disturbing details of the nationalized health care plan that the current administration is rushing through Congress, our collective jaw is dropping, and we're saying not just no, but hell no!".

"The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course.

“The America I know and love is not the one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's ‘death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.”

Palin's statement then launched the health care debate into overdrive. The term was mentioned in news reports approximately 6,000 times in August and September, according to the Nexis database.

A claim by Glenn Beck that Barack Obama's a science adviser John Holdren proposed forcing abortions and sterilants on the U.S. population, Conspiracy theorist Orly Taitz's claim that a birth certificate showed that Obama was born in Kenya, and a claim by Vice President Joe Biden during the H1N1 flu hysteria that 'when one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft,' were some of the runners up in the lie contest.

But this does not mean that Palin's Facebook account is all about lies!

In her most recent post on the healthcare bill in the US, Midnight Votes, Backroom Deals, and a Death Panel, Palin accused the Harry Reid’s Senate of making shady backroom deals to ram through the Democrat health care take-over.

"...Democrats are protecting this rationing “death panel” from future change with a procedural hurdle. You have to ask why they’re so concerned about protecting this particular provision..” she says.

Also there are her observations on the climate change summit, in reply to a Washington Post article criticizing Palin's contradictory stands.

After the Copenhagen summit, the former governor of Alaska even sent a tweet on the fallacy of climate change, calling Copenhagen the "arrogance of man".

"Copenhagen=arrogance of man2think we can change nature's ways.MUST b good stewards of God's earth,but arrogant&naive2say man overpwers nature," read Palin's tweet.

Finally, this is not for the first time that Palin is caught in a 'lie trap'. During the US election season, the news was more about her faking pregnancy to cover up for her unmarried daughter having a love child. And now the healthcare controversy to Copenhagen summit.

So, we may wait for more from the beautiful lady who failed to become the US vice president!
