Greeks most likely to turn workspace into love spot

UK workers most likely to wed co-workers they date, says an online survey from CareerBuilder

BANGALORE, INDIA: Workers in Greece, the Netherlands and Spain are most likely to have indulged in dating co-workers, according to a survey from CareerBuilder.co.uk.

Greece emerged as the most likely country with 66 per cent workers engaged in office romance, says the survey conducted online within Germany, Greece, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, The United Kingdom, and the US, by Harris Interactive on behalf of CareerBuilder.com and CareerBuilder.co.uk.

The result finds that workers in the Netherlands (51 per cent), Spain (46 per cent), the UK (40 per cent), Sweden (40 per cent) and the US (40 per cent) follow Greece.

Workers in Germany (28 per cent) are the least likely to have dated a co-worker. In Spain, the Netherlands and Greece, men are more likely to have dated a co-worker in a higher position than women workers in those countries.

In the UK, Germany, Sweden and the US, women are more likely to have dated someone in a higher position than men in those countries.

Workers in the Netherlands (93 per cent) are the least likely to keep their work relationships secret, followed by those in Spain (77 per cent), Germany (70 per cent), the UK (69 per cent), US (66 per cent), Greece (62 per cent) and Sweden (57 per cent).

When it comes to marriage, US workers (29 per cent) were most likely to enter into wedlock with co-workers they dated, followed by workers in the UK (21 per cent), Germany (19 per cent), Spain (17 per cent) and Sweden (16 per cent).

On the contrary, workers from Greece (5 per cent) and the Netherlands (4 per cent) were the least likely to tie the knot with a co-worker they dated.

Where it blooms

In the UK, Spain and Greece happy hour is the most popular place to kick off an office romance. Workers in Sweden and Germany are most likely to get going with their office romance at company holiday parties or company picnics.

In the US and the Netherlands, running into someone outside of work is the most popular way to begin office relationships.
