And she sold her virginity online for $32000

BANGALORE, INDIA: In this age of online auctions you have a virtual platform to sell anything – from your assets to your body. But when this 19-year-old New Zealand woman auctioned her virginity online it became a news – a sad one at that – because she was not a girl who was exploring the opportunity of being a call girl.

This late teenager offered to sleep with a stranger as she needed money to pay for her university fees.

The student, who called herself "Unigirl", said 30,000 people viewed my ad and more than 1,200 offers made, while the deal was fixed at $32,000 ($NZ45,000).

“Thank you to the more than 30,000 people who viewed my ad and to the more than 1,200 offers made” she said on the auction site. “I have accepted an offer in excess of $NZ45,000, which is way beyond what I dreamt.”

The woman, who described herself as attractive, fit and healthy, said that she had never been in a sexual relationship. She decided to sell it because she was desperate for money to pay university fees.

The auction naturally threw up some legal questions as well. A Waikato Times newspaper report quoted the proprietor of the website, Ross MacKenzie, as saying that the auction was legal.

However, a rival site, Trade Me, said it would never allow such an auction. "We don't want Trade Me to be seen as the place where people auction off their virginity," a report quoted Paul Ford, its spokesman, as saying.

Auction site eBay also refused to host such auctions.

This is not for the first time such virginity auctions are taking place in the cyber space. During last January, a woman had made news with such an offer. This 22-year-old Californian woman Natalie Dylan had attracted an offer of $5 million for her virginity from an Australian businessman in January 2009.

However, the businessman who won this 'indecent proposal' later pulled out of the transaction after his wife objected (yes you heard it right! He reportedly sought permission from his wife for such a historic deal!)

Then there was this Romanian girl Alina Percea who had auctioned her virginity for £8,800 in last May through a German dating website. And the winner of the online auction was a 45-year-old Italian businessman.
