KANPUR, INDIA: IBM has hosted IBM Technology Day at The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) to share knowledge about the emerging technology trends significant to industry that can help improve employability skills among engineering students. The sessions covered new technology tends such as MashUps, Component business modelling, SOA, and others. This event is a part of IBM’s efforts to collaborate with academia in India and build interest among students to pursue a broad range of careers in research, business and technology.
IBM has a broad strategy to prepare students for a more competitive workforce by arming them with skills for the 21st Century. Through IBM Technology days at IITs across India, the company will uncover new sources of talent by encouraging them to take risks and think differently to generate new innovative ideas.
Commenting on the event, Pankaj K. Sinha, Program Director, Lab Services and Solutions, IBM Software Group, India Software Labs IBM India said “The global economy is changing and so are the needs and skill requirements of global workforce changing rapidly as technology advances. There is in fact a shorter shelf-life for specific technical skills. IBM, with its “full spectrum” of research, services, industry and technology expertise, is well poised to work closely with academic institutions to help shape the workforce and business and society of the future. It is our resolve to nurture a new generation of innovators with deep knowledge of service related disciplines”
The highlight of the day was a discussion on the improvement and availability of technical skills and talent developments. The other important discussions involved IBM’s leadership in the research space, its growth in Enterprise Mobility and Emergence of Advanced Collaboration Paradigm and also the current work in Advanced Semiconductors beyond 32-nm Technology Node.
Prof Sanjay Dhande, Director, IIT K said, “We fully understand how innovation is driving market trends globally. IIT Kanpur is carrying out original research of significance and technology development at the cutting edge, which is in synch with business requirements. The institute has always been an attractive center for generation of ideas, concepts, and technologies with its extensive partnerships with various corporate entities. We look forward to initiatives from IBM to provide further impetus to student-led activities.”
IBM’s University Relations’ teams have been partnering with academia to drive evolving open standards-based IT skills. Some of the other activities under the University Relations include: developing strategic linkages with universities/colleges; assisting colleges with curriculum development and instructional material; helping colleges develop consistent, high quality curricula for leading and emerging technologies; promoting high quality education - by providing state-of-the-art support from IBM; evangelizing Open Standards technologies, critical for the future of IT industry.
