There is a profound transformation imminent in how people work and do business, which is driving a new set of service requirements and imperatives. Accommodating these new user demands will be the main challenge for outsourcing providers in the coming year and beyond. Outsourced data centers will increasingly feature more efficient storage capacities, better power facilities, servers using multi-core processors , and use of virtualization. Virtualization eliminates energy costs, maintenance outlays, cooling expenses and data center costs by as much as 90 percent. It comes as no surprise that chip and PC manufacturers are moving toward more energy-efficient components—including improved memory and resource management.

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) is the current "next big industry initiative." After years of discussion and definition, SOA is being actively deployed just as businesses are focused on more effectively integrating business processes and IT services for greater flexibility and managed cost. Built on supporting technologies such as object orientation and open standards, SOA helps make IT more responsive by addressing the very real business issues of code and functional reuse, the cost of development and maintenance, and improving business agility and responsiveness.

Software as a Service (SaaS)
Until a few years ago bandwidth limitations, performance obstacles and IT administration issues made remote software service difficult. But today, software as a service (SaaS) is growing at an annual rate exceeding 40 percent. By 2010 it is expected to command a 23 percent share of the $120 billion U.S. software market according to RBC Capital Markets. The cloud computing environment, which makes software ubiquitous across desktops, notebooks and mobile devices, will contribute to the expansion of SaaS into areas beyond ERP, CRM and HR management systems.

Cloud Computing
Gartner has certified that Cloud Computing is among the top technologies that are poised to be widely adopted by enterprises in the next two to five years. Cloud computing is a concept through which tasks are assigned to a combination of connections, software and services accessed over a network. This network of servers and connections is collectively known as "the cloud."

Computing at the scale of the cloud allows users to access supercomputer-level power. Using access points, like an iPhone, BlackBerry or laptop, users can reach into the cloud for resources as and when they need them. Unisys has the capability to provide technology, hybrid cloud integration services, “cloud engine” within the Real-Time Infrastructure space, Software as a Service vertical solutions, and outsourced cloud platforms.
