So, more and more customers are now metering some elements of these data centre environment and putting temperature gauges and doing much more in terms of environmental control. And the idea is that we can monitor all of that. The solution helps you to actually see what is going in terms of consumption in the data centre. More detailed the data is, the more you begin to adjust. It’s more than just traditional IT. 

As I said, it is about instrumenting and monitoring all the equipments in the data centre. 

CIOL: How has security issues impacted enterprises? 
SM: We have been investing in security and related technologies for years at IBM. We cater to requirements of the customers conforming to various standards, various aspects of effectively securing their information, the data assets or applications. In some cases it is physical hardware associated with intrusion detection. In other cases it is administrative tools focused on helping enterprises in maintaining effective security practices. 

Security breach has a negative impact on the company’s reputation and therefore, often affects the value of the company. “Increasingly businesses have recognized that even though an investment today may not bring any direct return, the preventive nature of doing these things can be quite profound in terms of not creating a negative impact of having a security breach that becomes a public issue.

Most security breaches are because of the result of inside information and poor procedural management and not the result of somebody hacking through your systems.
