It’s time a CIO takes on the capability to take calculated risks. Learning from business leaders, acting as a change agent, is the way forward. It should be more than a visiting card. There’s room for re-christening beyond transformation managers, system managers etc.

Yes, specially in areas like communication, project management capabilities, people management etc.

 

Today’s CIO role has evolved a lot in last ten to 15 years. Earlier people in this space were mostly techies. Now technology has become commoditised, and so business orientation, speaking business language etc has taken more importance. IT has to work in tandem with business’s strategies, ambitions etc, The CIO has to align himself well with business leaders, the organization will look at him with respect.

 

I would blame the CIOs only. If a person says he can not get respect, then he is equally responsible. There’s so much business turbulence in an organization, there’s only that much space for attention.. ROI, cost savings and IT enabled strategic imperatives are important.

I think IT and partner ecosystem go hand in hand. No organisation can succeed without the ecosystem, which includes everyone- from application guys, resources, to vendors etc
