CIOL: Don't you feel people would end up with more eyestrain and work overload due to usage of dual monitors? BT: Eye strain, yes! But more work load, no! Dual monitors are supposed to ease the workload, increase productivity, aid in keep track of multiple activities, and help push the idea of a paperless office. CIOL: Why do you think people would like to see two desktops with multiple applications open or running simultaneously? BT: As evident from the case studies by Microsoft and Apple, individuals prefer, if given an option, to have two smaller monitors than one larger monitor. Two monitors make it possible to quickly view documents side-by-side and provide a wider area of vision. Multiple monitors are useful when the application has palettes or when two or three windows need to be opened, such as for programming/debugging. Besides this, dual monitors allow for increased desktop space. CIOL: Dual monitors were talked about in the past too, but did not catch up. Is this yet another ploy to sell more hardware? BT: We have seen the benefits of using dual monitors. It has certainly helped us increase our performance and productivity. We are not a hardware selling company, and therefore, will not be able to comment on the strategy of hardware vendors. BT: The five benefits of using dual or multiple monitors at the workplace are as follows: * Increase in productivity * Helps in effective multitasking * Better performance and better functionality * Pushes the idea of a paperless office to reality * Allows increased desktop space. CIOL: What else would Directi do to promote the usage of dual monitors in India, and how does it stand to benefit? BT: The usage of dual monitors is an organization’s decision. We have seen great benefits and would continue to use dual monitors in our daily work life. We are also exploring the opportunity of having all departments on dual monitors.
