PUNE, INDIA: Software testing company AppLabs would increasingly pool in to open source community with new tools and frameworks. It would soon roll out an open source-testing tool for OSS developers. TEMA or Test Management Tool, would be freely available for open source community soon and the company would host it on its website. Sai Chintala, VP, Testing Services, AppLabs, told that the company is working on customizing open source tools for plug-and-play frameworks. “TEMA is based on LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL Python) technology. We offer this as an alternate test case management tool. It helps in tracking defects and managing lifecycle of a test case.” It is right now in the pilot stage within the company and around 15 to 20 customers are already using it. Once listed openly to the public, the tool would be available for download and customization.” The company is investing in building its IP on tools and frameworks. Applabs is working on developing test methodology frameworks, SOA-based applications. “The likes of COTS or (Commercial Off The Shelf) stuff are expensive and not easy for the customer, so we are investing in our own R&D to make these products adaptable,” he added. Applabs has also adapted OSS testing tool Jmeter and customized it to AppMeter. The company, in addition, aspires to go for TMM, the testing parallel of CMM (Capability Maturity Model). As Chintala shares, “We have adopted in-principle TMM practices and are using ATM or Applabs Test Methodology that combines the best from both CMM and TMM.”
