NEW DELHI, INDIA: After direction of Central Board of Excise and Customs, All six stock keeping units (SKU) of Windows7 software which were held with customs department, will hit Indian market in this week.
Will India miss the Windows 7 launch?
“Windows7 SKUs will reach market in this week. CBEC has cleared confusion and we are waiting for customs to clear it. We expect that in this week software will be made available across stores,” Ravi Venkatesan, chairman, Microsoft India told CIOL correspondent on sidelines of MNCs in India event organized by Confederation of Indian Industries.
Does Windows 7 boost performance?
However Venkatesan was not clear on date by when the clearance will be made but he expected that softwares will get custom clearance in next couple of days. Customs authorities had held clearance to six SKUs of Windows7, along with softwares of other companies. Customs department was imposing double tax on these SKUs by considering them in the category of goods and service. CBEC had asked the customs department not to impose double tax on software, and instead only levy 10 per cent service tax on it as per the changes made in 2009 budget.
