BANGALORE, INDIA: Search engine giant Google recently released the un-baked and incomplete versions of Chrome for the Mac OS X and Linux platform.

The announcement was made in a blog posted on the official Google chrome website.

"We have early developer channel versions of Google Chrome for Mac OS X and Linux, " said the blog posted by Mike Smith and Karen Grunberg, product managers.

However it also warned the user to not download them, unless one wants to experiment with the incomplete, unpredictable, and potentially crashing software.

It also said that the early version are so incomplete that they do not allow to view YouTube videos, change of privacy settings, set default search provider, or even print.

There is already built-up excitement for these new versions with comparisons being made with the rival browsers.

A comment posted on the blog by Mark read, "Once Chrome works on Linux and has extensions like Firefox I pledge to drop Firefox! I like the old Mozilla project but I like Chrome better on Windows now. Can't wait to fire it up on Ubuntu. Go developers go!"

"I'm so impressed! It kicks ass on my netbook running Ubuntu 9.04 32bit. Sorry firefox 3.0.x your days are numbered.. My dad will be very happy about this release and so theres another linux chrome user to be. Cant wait for the full beta and stable," said another comment by Tyrone.

Even though the company assures to get back with the beta release of these versions soon, the developer community could not wait to lay its hands upon this.

Few of the comments posted in the blog showed the eagerness amongst the developer community and some of them have already tried it out and found these incomplete versions working to some extent.

A comment posted under the name Adam King said, "Wow! it works (with a bit of fiddling) with the latest Gentoo 64bit distribution. And it currently seems much faster than Firefox and appears stable. I've been able to access my gmail account and run most of the javascript at chromeexperiments.com."

The comment further added, "In fact, I'm writing this comment with the 64bit deb release! Thanks very much for releasing this!"

"I absolutely love Chrome, have been waiting a long time for the Mac version. Can't wait to play around with it, even if it is very buggy! Thanks guys!," said another comment on the same blog.
