Definately. Long term view is major thing which everybody is calculating for good return too. Big advantage of Open Source is that, we can save money of governmnet too, by deploying it in all majoe backend applications. Regards, Ashish Barot.

@Daniel The cost savings from Open Source are considerable if you consider them over the long-term. Youre quite right that the initial learning curve means they will be less comfortable than the applications you already know. But this is a cost you all the time as you have to upgrade Microsoft technologies over time as well. Nonetheless, over three years youre going to remove the cost of licensing and only pay for services you really need. Youll also increase the flexibility of your organisations because you can implement new projects without having to check your budget for licenses! So the trick is to consider the cost/benefit over a life-cycle.

I dont think so that it is just because of cost saving developers migrate to Linux. There are several factors involved in using MS products. Being a user of MS products from several years, I found it comfartable and easier to use MS applications as against open source apps. The primary reasons to migrate to Linux from Microsoft OSs are cost savings in licensing (26 percent), security (18 percent), and reliability (18 percent).
