The new AMI technology enables minimal to zero impact on I/O performance (both sequential and random I/Os), and also maintains original snapshots even when writable snapshots are modified. Thus, it results in zero degradation in creating additional snapshots, multi-level scheduling of snapshots and rollback terabytes of data in a second, thus enabling a multiple parallel snapshot chunk reads and writes for faster replication.

CMN: Could you elaborate on AMI’s continuous data protection technology and its advantages?

JK: CDP (Continuous Data Protection) is one another technology that is a part of AMI’s StorTrends iTX. CDP, in SNIA (Storage Network Industry Association) terms, could be defined as: A methodology that continuously captures or tracks data modifications and stores changes independently of the primary data, enabling recovery points from any point in the past. CDP systems may be block, file, or application-based and can provide fine granularities of restorable objects to infinitely variable recovery points.

StorTrends iTX combines its low-latency snapshot technology with efficient I/O journaling to offer a powerful, dependable CDP repository. The CDP services layer is very tightly integrated with the Journaling and Snapshot modules as shown in the illustration below. The snapshot technology in StorTrends iTX provides near-continuous data protection by creating and retaining hundreds of low-latency snap shots per volume at scheduled intervals, to produce numerous hourly, daily, monthly and yearly snapshots. When combined with journal storage, StorTrends iTX offers true CDP capabilities.

CMN: How much of the share of storage market is AMI targeting and what are your growth plans?

JK: AMI is targeting 10 percent of the IP-SAN storage market by 2008. Toward this, we plan to appoint few more resellers, system integrators and channel partners in different parts of the country. We also plan on increasing our sales force and roping in more engineers for our after sales support.
