BANGALORE, INDIA: Xfrog is developed by Greenworks Organic Software for the use of interactive modeling and animation of natural branching structures like trees, flowers and plants.

XFrog is a standalone program which includes the basic library, an XfrogPlants Library of twenty species of common trees and three age variations of each tree that contains sixty models. The 'PhiBall' has fan, radius and angle settings and the 'Trees' has stem, branches and tropisms settings.

You can animate all these components by varying their parameters like number of branches, strength and gravity. Presently two types of packages are available in the market.

If you want to make both animations and modeling, choose XfrogFull. If you are planning to do modeling only, then go to XfrogLite. In this hands-on, we show you how to create 'Grisella' with few simple steps.


Drag the 'Simple' component to the 'Hierarchy' camera, which will give you a link to the camera. The red ball in the center of the model is the basis.	Select 'Simple' components and go to 'Parameter Editor'. Click the 'Primitive' and change the 'Primitive Type' to 'Sphere'. Set the 'Resolution' value 15 to make the surface smooth.

Go to 'Material' and click on the 'Color >Set' white circle. Press 'Diffuse Edit' and change the color to red. Press on 'Specular Edit' and change it to blue.	Double click on the 'leaf' components and go to the 'Parameter Editor', set the 'Length' 10 and 'Scale X' 5. Also make the 'Segments' slider high for a smooth outline.

For a better shape, change the 'Shape >Range' value to 3 and change the 'Curavture' rotation values to rotate the leaf. Go to 'Color set' and change it to green	Double click the 'PhiBall' components and drag the 'Horn' components to the 'Hierarchy Editor'. Go to 'Hierarchy' and drag the 'Horn' to 'PhiBall'. This shows a lot of horns.

Select the 'PhiBall' component and go to 'Parameter Editor'. Change the number to 30. Select the 'Horn' component and make the 'Shape>Range' sliders shown above the picture.	Go to 'Parameter Editor' again and below the 'Curvature', change the 'Rotation X' and 'Rotation Y' values as shown for making the horns rotate.

Press 'Material' and click the color 'set' white circle. Press the 'Diffuse Edit' and change the color to yellow. Drag a new 'Simple' component and link to the 'Horn'.	Select the connecting link between the 'Horn' and the 'Simple' and change the link to 'Simple'. Make the 'Primitive Type' to 'Sphere', set the resolution high and change the color.
