What are the latest technology trends that are likely to revolutionize the way people communicate with each other, and India's role in Adobe's product map?

There are a number of upcoming new trends in the technology sphere. The potent new do-it-yourself Web 2.0 trend is shaking up a raft of industries, from software and telecommunications to media, marketing, and entertainment. As people individually and collectively program their own Web, they're increasingly calling the shots. In the process, they're challenging the way tech companies’ design and sell their products.

The publishing industry is maturing and flourishing at a faster pace. The emergence of the digital and online media has brought about a significant change in the core business model of the publishing industry. Adobe’s latest offering of Frame Maker will help the technical communicators add images, graphics, animation and simulation to their technical documents. In addition, industry-leading integration of XML accelerates the creation, localization and distribution of content for output across operating systems, devices, and platforms and new Unicode support enables authors to effortlessly publish a single document in multiple languages.

Mobile networks will also lead the space in coming times. And thanks to the next generation of cell phones with enhanced graphical, sound and data capabilities, rich content on mobile devices is poised as the next big thing. Another emerging trend that I see in the coming years is that of open source. While some see Open Source as a kind of communal catalyst for innovation and creativity others see it as a wildly destructive trend that threatens to undermine the economic viability of the entire software industry. The conventional wisdom suggests that the way to beat Open Source is to “out-engineer” Open Source by providing a more stable, secure and feature rich product.

Online video, too, is outpacing other digital media behaviors. Increasing penetration of broadband access and PC ownership globally signals that the PC will begin to really assert itself as a 'second screen' within the household. The consumer appetite for video content has accelerated the adoption of online video behaviors and this presents itself as a great opportunity to us.
