HOUSTON, USA: Provider of management and administration solutions for Microsoft SQL Server environments, Idera has announced the availability of SQLsafe 4.8, the company's award-winning SQL Server backup and recovery system.
New features provided in v4.8 include:
* Real-time Alerting: Monitor backup and recovery operations and send alerts in the case of failed operation or missed backup
* Enhanced integration with Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM):
* Groom backup files from TSM by marking them inactive, which allows TSM expiration processing to permanently delete them * Retrieve a backup file from TSM and copy it directly to disk making it easier to restore files across TSM nodes
* Support for SQL Server 2008: Provide backup and recovery support for SQL Server 2008

SQLsafe is a powerful backup and recovery system designed to automate, manage and audit backup and recovery operations across tens or hundreds of servers performing millions of critical database backups per year.
"The ability to compress the backup files and send them directly to IBM's Tivoli Storage Manager for storage is critical for us," said Ed Clapper, an architect manager at a major insurance company.
He added: "The compression capability and resulting increased speed allows us to minimize network traffic as well as minimizing the performance impact of storing and retrieving data from a centralized, offline storage system. The new alerting feature will notify us in the case of a failed or missed backup, which will ensure we are being proactive and preventing a disaster from which we cannot recover."
