BANGALORE, INDIA: With 1.5 lakh online pre-orders, the Aakash 2 formally known as UbiSlate 7 tablet is all set for a launch in early March, 2012, not in January as announced earlier.
As an enhanced version of Aakash, UbiSlate 7 is getting overwhelming response, says DataWind - a Canada based company which debuted ultra-low cost device for students.
Based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, the new version will be available for Rs 2,999 and is equipped with Cortex A8 – 700 MHz processor. The company has also roped in various regional distributors for Aakash 2, but however declined to name them.

DataWind is sourcing components from multiple locations. "Due to swelling demand, the component sourcing especially the availability of modems has become a problem," informs Vijendra K Gupta, Vice President (CSD) DataWind to CIOL.
The ultra-low cost tablet giant procures more than 20 components from China, 35 from Korea besides others from the US and India. DataWind has already identified manufacturing facilities in Kochin and Pondicherry.

Rupee depreciation is however another cause of worry, says Datawind.
"As we have already committed a price to our consumers, therefore there would be no cost hike,” said Gupta. But however, the company doesn't rule out the price hike in future.
Buoyed over the terrific response, Gupta also informed that they have been approached by other south Asian nations such as Sri Lanka, Thailand and Nepal.
The company is also in talks with various service providers for Aakash 2, and will soon announce regional support centers.
