If plans go as per schedule, PTI might begin shipping before July this year. Speculations bank on the fact that Toshiba has been PTI's long-term client. The Japanese major had been outsourcing production of its NAND flash chips and microSD cards to PTI. However, PTI sources haven’t been forthcoming on who exactly the latest customer is.
PTI’s Suzhou plant has set aside close to 20 per cent of its total capacity to meet Spansion orders. Besides, backend orders for chips used in SSD and USB drives are also taken care of at the Spansion plant. PTI undertakes these orders for companies working closely with it. The Suzhou plant was taken over by PTI from Spansion during August 2009, in the company’s bid to effectively establish an expanded presence in China.
Apart from the Suzhou plant, PTI had also recently bought out a factory building at Hsinchu in Taiwan. This acquisition would result in beginning to offer system-in-package services for logic ICs in June.
