In 2010, IC Plus started cooperative efforts with MediaTek for producing Bluetooth ICs for 2.5/2.75G handsets. Sources say this was spurred by the fact that MediaTek's own capacity was focused on producing Bluetooth chips for smartphones and 3G handsets,
As an added advantage, IC Plus's Bluetooth ICs are pin-to-pin compatible with MediaTek's MT6011, 6611 and 6612 Bluetooth ICs, which made it easier for IC Plus to receive windfall orders from MediaTek.
Sources also say that Bluetooth IC shipments from IC Plus have begun to gain momentum since the second quarter due to new wafer capacity that has become available at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing.
IC Plus expects to see continued expansion in its revenues in the third quarter too say sources. They anticipate that revenues will reach a record high of NT$650-700 million compared to NT$560 million projected for the second quarter.
