NEW DELHI, INDIA: Trend Micro Inc, a pioneer in secure content and threat management, will start shipping its new version of Office Scan Client Server Edition 2008 from mid-June.

David Spenhoff, vice president of enterprise marketing at Trend Micro, said that the new version will have web-reputation tools apart from content and source character scanning applications.

“Web-based threats are growing dramatically and in the last year the growth was estimated at 54 per cent as against traditional threats which accounted only 15-20 per cent,” he said quoting Trend Labs estimates.

“The spammers are becoming very focused and targeted. Threats have changed and the technology will also have to change. To defeat the new-age web-based threats it is necessary to have a solution which is an effective blend of all three technologies, namely content scanning, source character scanning and web reputation,” Spenhoff said.

He claimed that the Office Scan Client Server Edition 2008 could counter all types of attacks.

“Web reputation is an innovative way which analyses the threat behaviour of a portal. A common database of these malicious websites are created and is maintained as a ‘cloud’ for the benefit of all the people, instead of resting it in the client server. The tool will work both online and offline on networks,” Spenhoff added.

Trend Micro also plans to add the web-reputation tool in its email server editions.
