Maran unhappy outlines achievements

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

NEW DELHI: A Raja, the new Union Minister for Communications and IT, would continue with the policies of his predecessor while giving priority to rural telephony.

Taking charge of the ministry on Wednesday, Raja resolved to continue the policies of Dayanidhi Maran in the Indian IT and the telecom sector.

Raja replaced Maran in the Communications and IT ministry as the latter resigned after he fell out of favour with his DMK party supremo and Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi.

“Rural telephony will be main focus of the government. The policies formulated by my predecessors will continue and [I] would take forward the growing telecom sector in the country,” Raja said.

He added that he would be holding meeting with the department officials on the initiatives to be taken in both the IT and the telecom sector.

On the government’s take on FDI, he said that foreign investments would continue.
