LUDHIANA, INDIA: In a daring incident, a group of four unidentified men entered the premises of Ludhiana-based Big Byte Computers and robbed cash and computer parts worth Rs 4 lakh at gunpoint.
The robbers had covered their faces with black masks and were armed with revolvers and knives. They tied the hands and legs of the employees with rope. It is also reported that an employee was shot on his leg when he tried to flee from the spot.
After an hour of holding the employees captive the gang fled with several items like CPU, RAM, accessories and laptops including the mobile phones of Rajiv Bansal, owner of the company, and all his employees. The incident happened at 7:30pm on November 5.
Members of the IT association of Ludhiana—Association of Computer Entrepreneurs (ACE), observed a bandh the following day, informed Paramjit Singh Juneja, CEO of Secant Technologies.
An FIR has been filed with the police and members of ACE held a discussion with DSP and SSP of the region, seeking immediate arrest of the accused. Ludhiana police has assured that the accused would be arrested soon as they had leads to help them catch hold of the culprits.
Gurpreet Singh, President, ACE, while giving latest updates on the actions taken by the police, informed, "Police is saying that they have clues but it will take sometime to catch the person. The association is in regular discussion with SSD in Ludhiana."
"The robbers arrived in a Maruti Zen and the same car was found burnt 2km away from the site of robbery. The number plates were not visible but the police has assured us that there are indications on the basis of which they would catch the accused," shared Juneja.
Though the market was closed on November 6 for the whole day, dealers in Ludhiana made their way to attend the IT Panchayat, organized by The DQ Week on the same day.
Bansal of Big Byte Computers could not be contacted to give a comment on the incident.
